And now for something completely different...

Last weekend, I spilled beer over my keyboard (that teaches me not to have fun while working on my computer ;) )
Luckily, I had an old keyboard lying around that I was able to use temporarily.
But I wanted my nice wireless keyboard back, so I googled for cleaning tips. One tip stood out: put the keyboard (sans electronic) in a dishwasher.
As crazy as it sounds, it actually works. I took the keyboard apart, put the plastic parts in the rinse cycle in a dishwasher, without any detergent, and then let it dry for a couple of days. I put the keyboard back together today, and it works. I am using it typing this post...

The resident councils of the Graduate and Family housing communities at UCI, Palo Verde and Verano, have created a website where residents of both communities can keep themselves informed about the current affairs in their communities.
While each community obviously has concerns specific to the particular community, there are lots of issues, e.g., Resnet mismanagement, Length of stay, affordability, etc. that affect both communities. Bundling the resources gives these issues better visibility and promises a more effective and more powerful representation of residents concerned about these issues.

While not directly related to Cable TV issues in UCI on-campus housing, I wanted to provide more visibility to the efforts to create a residents council in the Palo Verde community. The Cable TV fiasco showed that a community voice is needed.
Verano Place has had a resident council for several years, and the Palo Verde resident council is modeled after that.
The website for the Palo Verde Resident Council (PVRC) is at http://www.ags.uci.edu/~pvrc/
The elections for the PVRC are coming up in May. Nominations are due on Friday, May 6.
The election timeline is listed on the PVRC webpage:

 • May 6: Nomination forms due at the Palo Verde Housing office.
 • May 8: Nomination emails due.
 • May 9: Candidates will be announced and their statements will be posted. Polling places and times will be announced, and polls will open.
 • May 16: Polls close.
 • May 23: Deadline to challenge the election results.
 • May 30: Official election results posted.

And as the recent accusatory email from the Palo Verde Housing office shows, there really is a need for the PV Residents Council.

This blog tries to capture all the gripes about UCI Resident Networking (Resnet) and the switch to UCI-managed Cable TV in on-campus housing.
