I haven't had to post about outages for quite some time, but this weekend, I found that Channel 11 (Fox) has been out since at least Saturday.
I hope this is an isolated event, and doesn't indicate a fundamental problem with the DirecTV receivers (the outages of last year were caused by receivers from Dish that weren't designed for 24/7 operation...)
Update: it got fixed on Monday morning, after I alerted Resnet to it.

Yesterday, I asked Kevin Ansel, the UCI Housing person responsible for the Cable TV service, about the survey results.
Here is his answer:

Here's the update. We had about 1,500 responses to the survey. Housing's Marketing and Assessment department is in the process of compiling the data. All the comments that we received makes the compiling more difficult. I believe they will have the results early next week. After we (Housing) gets a chance to review the results, we will get the group together to discuss the survey.

1,500 responses is really a good response rate. I am pleased to see that people apparently care enough about this. Thanks to all who answered the survey.

While not directly related to Cable TV issues in UCI on-campus housing, I wanted to provide more visibility to the efforts to create a residents council in the Palo Verde community. The Cable TV fiasco showed that a community voice is needed.
Verano Place has had a resident council for several years, and the Palo Verde resident council is modeled after that.
The website for the Palo Verde Resident Council (PVRC) is at http://www.ags.uci.edu/~pvrc/
The elections for the PVRC are coming up in May. Nominations are due on Friday, May 6.
The election timeline is listed on the PVRC webpage:

  • May 6: Nomination forms due at the Palo Verde Housing office.
  • May 8: Nomination emails due.
  • May 9: Candidates will be announced and their statements will be posted. Polling places and times will be announced, and polls will open.
  • May 16: Polls close.
  • May 23: Deadline to challenge the election results.
  • May 30: Official election results posted.

And as the recent accusatory email from the Palo Verde Housing office shows, there really is a need for the PV Residents Council.

The URL for the Cable TV Survey has been sent out to students in the on-campus housing communities.
A quote from the email:

Our students hold a wide range of TV viewing preferences, and given budget constraints, it has been a challenge to include all of the requested channels in the cable line-up. To plan for the future, Student Housing would like your input on the current cable channel offerings, as well as suggestions for the possible addition of channels to the line-up. Changes in the cable channel line-up would have costs associated with them, and those costs, if adopted, would be added onto Student Housing rates.

So, please participate in the survey, and indicate your preferences on additional channels.
