Resnet's lame excuse for a status page

Apparently, Resnet has now put up a page listing outages, and what caused them.
While that is useful for after-the-fact information, I have to wonder why it took them so long to put it up. We asked about it in a Housing Open Forum in the April/May timeframe. Maybe they want to be able to show that they don't completely ignore the residents. If that's their goal, they failed miserably.

In the meantime, an ICS graduate student living in Palo Verde has set up a realtime monitoring system.

One has to wonder why Resnet has not been able in months to provide realtime monitoring on their website when a graduate student can do that in an hour? (That's a rhetorical question, of course ;))

Resnet also has a link to wireless access point, stating here "Here's what we Recommend". Not surprisingly, they "recommend" an outdated 802.11b access point, from a company that has had privacy issues before. So, an organization (Resnet) that disregards privacy issues by forcing Cisco Clean Access on their users, recommends an access point from a company that disregarded privacy issues... At least Belkin issued a mea-culpa. I'm still waiting for that from Resnet (i.e., the scrapping of CCA.)
Aside from the fact that this particular Belkin box is an access point, and not a wireless router, it also is slow since it only has a maximum transfer rate of 11Mbps. Most wireless cards nowadays support 802.11g with 54Mbps transfer rate (which can be doubled with some manufacturer-specific technology.)
I personally use a Netgear access point.
